"Once I began to think of my paintings as open fields or as vast amphitheatres then small dramas began to take place. The space in the paintings became metaphoric and the mood became that of a private reverie. The small dramas are set in motion by weather elements like cloud bursts or by giving light a leading role. I identify with the people in my paintings - they are gropers, navigating slowly while looking for something."
